Distance Learning

WHAT’S UP WITH LEARNING IN LOCKDOWN FOR ONEPOTO SCHOOL?

Learning Packs will continue for students who have not returned to school from the 17th November.

Communication with Parents, Caregivers & Whanau

Communication is vital in lockdown and it’s important that we make regular contact with our families and stay connected! Teachers and staff contact families each week via phone call and/or a follow up text. We can check in with whanau and students to see that everyone is ok and if they need extra support at this time. While the school has made contact with relevant services during this time, a list of service providers has been posted on our school Facebook page and a list sent home for families to contact, should they need further support.

LEARNING  PACKS

We support our students and families as best as we can under lockdown circumstances. Students receive weekly Learning Packs from their teachers and teacher aides.

All our staff contribute to teaching and learning during lockdown. We have a School Bubble Team, Learning Pack Team and Delivery Day Team. Some of our staff can’t work onsite so they work from home, contributing great resources for classes! Everyone in our staff team is  valued and we support each other. Together we focus on our student’s learning and ensure that class Learning Packs are purposeful, managaeable and realistic for our students learning at home. Packs are tailor made to each class and student learning needs.

DELIVERY DAY!

Friday Delivery Day – This is our favourite day of the week! Each Friday our staff delivery team is out and about delivering Learning Packs to students for the new week ahead. It’s always great to see our students and their families and to have a quick catch up.

TRIAL CLASS WEBSITE

In this lockdown, Whaea Diane has built a class website which she is trialling with her class Waka Roa Year 3/4. The next steps will be to create class websites for our other classes to add to our new school website for future use in lockdown. Future learning links can also be added, which will make accessing online learning a bit easier for students.

WHY ARE WE NOT LEARNING ONLINE?

At the moment our school is not yet set up to deliver Online Learning, since having made a big transition into our new school. Ongoing discussions with our staff and our families regarding home internet access and devices will continue as we develop online learning for our school. For now, teachers have included a list of learning websites that students can access, if they can.
