DESIGNING FOR THE FUTURE IN MIND

NZ school design had been in the same schooling structure for 100 years. Small classrooms, desks, tables and one sole teacher responsible for teaching it all. Opened in 1961, Onepoto School was once a one level traditional school made up of two main blocks. In 2023, the Government at the time, Labour, invested 19 million dollars into rebuilding our school. The obvious housing re-development surrounding our school, meant that the design had to cater to the growing number of potential students moving into these new homes, therefore the school design and spaces were carefully considered over 12 months. Our school community contributed to this through class discussions, parent and whanau hui/fono and school open days.
